Member of Parliament-elect for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, has urged the government to intervene in the reconstruction of the Kantamanto market in Accra’s central business.
Dr. Agyeman expressed strong opposition to the current reconstruction efforts, emphasizing that the government must take charge to ensure the new market is built with properly engineered structures. “We can’t continue to rebuild the market in the same way that led to the fire,” he stated in an interview on an Accra-based media station.
Moreover, the MP-elect sympathized with the victims, acknowledging their need to work for their survival, but insisted that the right approach must be taken to prevent future disasters. His call for government intervention comes as traders and stakeholders scramble to rebuild the market, which is a critical economic hub in Accra.
Furthermore, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, Member of Parliament-elect for Abuakwa South, has emphasized the need for the government to implement a mandatory insurance policy for traders, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating fire outbreak at Kantamanto market.
This measure, he believes, would provide financial protection and support to traders in the event of future disasters, helping to mitigate the economic impact of such incidents. By enforcing the purchase of insurance, the government can help ensure that traders are better equipped to recover from unforeseen events and rebuild their businesses.
