Gov’t releases GHC3.5 million for completion of National House of Chiefs headquarters

Government has released 3.5 million cedis to facilitate the completion of the building of the National House of Chiefs headquarters.

President Akufo-Addo who announced this said, the fund is part of steps to incorporate and strengthen the role of chiefs in the governance processes.

He said chieftaincy disputes and issues of land administration continue to be a national problem.

He therefore implored the House to support Government to adjudicate the many outstanding disputes creating tension in the country.

President Akufo-Addo said this when he addressed members of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs in Bolgatanga as part of his two day tour of the Region.

Day four of the five days filing period was the busiest as five political parties and two independent candidates filed their nomination forms to contest in the 2020 General elections.

Out of eleven candidates who were billed to file only seven made the day. The candidates are  Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the NDP and Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC).

The rest are Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Henry Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and two Independent Candidates Kofi Koranteng and MarrickGane.

The  filing of the nominations was characterized by accusations against the Electoral Commission (EC).

Flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor, who presented four separate bankers  drafts totalling GHC100,000, accused former President John Mahama of being the mastermind behind her disqualification in 2012 and 2016

Flagbearer of the NDP, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings expressed confidence in the current leadership of the EC

Friday October 9 is the final day of the filing process. That means 17 political parties and 5 Independent candidates who are yet to file their nominations will have to do so before 5pm on October 9.
