Greater Accra records more than 300 fires first quarter of 2023

Statistics from the Greater Accra Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service indicate that the region from January to March 21st, 2023 recorded three hundred and fifteen fires. One person was burnt to death.

With Eighteen False Alarm calls, the region is cautioning Ghanaians to avoid prank calls to the service’s emergency lines.

The Service is further encouraging the public to continue to adhere to the fire safety protocols to minimize fires across the region.

The outbreak of fires whether domestic, vehicular, commercial, industrial, institutional, bush, refuse dumps come with devastating consequences, including loss of lives and properties.

These outbreaks come due to overaged wiring, poor wiring, overloading of electrical circuits, candles, smoking among others.

The Ghana National Fire Service says, the Greater Accra Region from January to 21st of March recorded three hundred and fifteen fire outbreaks. Out of the total fire recorded, one hundred and three are domestic, twenty-four are vehicular and eighty-eight are electrical installations.

The region also recorded thirty-four commercial fires, eight institutional fires, thirty-six bush, and refuse dump fires twenty-two. Road Traffic Accidents, other rescue operations, casualties among others recorded eight with one ‘burnt to death’ case.

The region also recorded eighteen false alarms calls, and one hundred and twenty-three out on arrival cases.

The Ghana National Fire Service said it will continue to put in place strategies to help reduce fires across the country. The service is worried over the abuse of the fire emergency lines.
