The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), the operator of Ghana’s National Interconnected Transmission System, has announced the full restoration of power supply following a system disturbance that occurred on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
In a statement issued by GRIDCo, the disturbance began at 8:09 PM when the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line tripped due to a fault.
While attempting to restore the line, adjacent lines also tripped, causing the shutdown of some power plants. This caused widespread outages in parts of Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and other areas in Northern Ghana.
GRIDCo’s System Control Centre (SCC) swiftly worked to stabilise the power system and restore supply to affected areas. By 10:57 PM, full power had been restored across the affected regions.
GRIDCo apologised for the disruption caused and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a stable and reliable power supply to consumers.
