The Ghana Grid Company has attributed the current power outages in parts of Accra and Kumasi to problems within the transmission system and interruptions within the gas sector. The company has dismissed reports that there is a generation problem.

At a media briefing in Accra, the Director of Systems Operations at GRIDCO, Mark Baah, said the outages are due to the work the company is doing to improve the transmission systems.

The work is expected to be completed by June and July to ensure a stable power supply.

Mr. Baah outlined some interventions like the construction of a substation at Pokuase and Kasoa to solve the issue.

On the intermittent power supply in Kumasi, Mr. Baah said there are plans to move the Ameri plant to Kumasi to solve the issue.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCO, Jonathan Amoako Baah has denied reports that the company is going through financial challenges, saying they have enough funds to undertake routine maintenance.

He said what the company needs is funding for bigger projects.
