A heavy downpour early this morning, has left parts of Tamale flooded, rendering some residents temporarily homeless. Sawaba, a suburb of Tamale, is the most affected area.
When GBC got to the scene residents were seen trying to salvage their mattresses and clothes. Store rooms and kitchens were also flooded, destroying stored food.
Residents said floods have become a perennial affair in the area due to poor drainage in the community.
Small gutters in the community, emptied into the open and formed running water into people rooms.
A victim of the flood, who gave her name as Mama Awuta, appealed that their immediate need is food, mattresses and a place to sleep.
She has therefore appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization [NADMO] to come to their aid.
Another victim of the disaster, Alhassan Abdul Razak, appealed to the assembly to construct drains in the area to prevent the perennial occurrence.
