An Accra High Court has granted bail to the 12 accused persons involved in the Bawku chieftaincy disturbances which led to the loss of lives and destruction of property.

The 12 were granted bail in a combined sum of GHC 240,000 with one surety, and no justification. All the 12 accused persons pleaded not guilty to two charges of unlawful assembly with weapons and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.

The bail was granted after their Lawyers moved to the High Court two days after the Circuit Court ruled that it does not have jurisdiction to grant them bail.

The accused persons were arrested last Tuesday, January 4, 2022 following a renewed chieftaincy clash in Bawku which led to loss of lives and destruction of property.

The case has been adjourned to the 12th of February, 2022.
