The Member of Parliament for the Ho Central Constituency, Hon. Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has condemned the vandalism and violence that occurred at the party’s office on Tuesday evening, January 21, 2025.

The vandalism of the party’s office was reportedly sparked by youth supporters of the NDC, who claim that President John Dramani Mahama has yet to appoint anyone from the constituency for a ministerial position in his government.

The irate youth allegedly stormed the party office in protest, damaging property and leaving a trail of destruction. The member of parliament for the constituency, Hon. Kpotosu, in a statement distanced himself from the acts, asserting that such behaviour does not reflect the values of the constituents of Ho Central or the principles of the NDC.

“I stand firmly against any form of violence or vandalism and unpatriotic behavior,” he said. “These actions do not represent the people of Ho Central, nor do they align with our shared values of respect, dialogue, and peace,” he added.

While acknowledging the frustration expressed by some constituents over the perceived lack of representation in government appointments, Hon. Kpotosu urged them to channel their grievances through peaceful and constructive means. “Disagreement is a vital part of our democracy,” he emphasised, “but it must be channeled through dialogue and constructive engagement, not through acts of aggression or vandalism.”

The MP called on the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. He also reaffirmed his respect for the appointments process and his support for President Mahama’s decisions, stating that events are still evolving.

Hon. Kpotosu pledged his continued dedication to serving the best interests of the people of Ho Central, ensuring their voices are heard in a manner that promotes peace and unity. “Let us focus on building bridges, not walls,” he appealed. “Together, we can work towards a brighter future for Ho Central.”

The unfortunate incident highlights the challenges of managing political expectations while maintaining peace and order within the constituency. The MP’s decisive response underscores the importance of upholding democratic values and fostering dialogue.
