The Ghana Hotels Association (GHA), has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament over the unfair treatment meted out to them by the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC).

The PURC in February this year removed them from the non-residential category to the commercial category, where they are required to pay 25 cedis per litre more than the 8.80 pesewas paid earlier.

According to the group, all attempts to get the PURC to reinstate them in the old category or at least explain it to them have proved futile.

Speaking to Business News, President of the GHA, Dr. Edward Ackah Nyamike said the petition to the Speaker is the Association’s last option to get them to do the right thing, since they are still offering the same services as before.

The high billing, according to Dr. Ackah Nyamike, if not addressed, will make the prices of hotel services increase, which will have a multiplier effect on the economy.
