I don’t have problem with protests – Akufo-Addo

I don't have problem with protests- President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has granted one of his last interviews as President to France 24, a French publicly funded international news television network based in Paris.

On whether he is concerned about the series of demonstrations lately and accusations of limiting dissent, President Akufo-Addo said, ”I’m not responsible for jailing people in Ghana, courts in Ghana, independent institutions.

They have been all through this pair of the 4th republic. People misconduct themselves and they’re brought before Court. It’s for the Court to deal with them. And so the matter has nothing to do with politics, and has nothing to do with the Executive.”

Nana Akufo-Addo was of the view that the conduct of the protestors landed them in trouble with the Police and the Courts.

“…their behavior…..landed them in trouble with the Police and with the Courts. It is not the protests. How can the President whose political career was aided by leading protests have problems with protests? I don’t have problems with protests, and nothing is done in Ghana to prevent people from airing their views on anything”, he reiterated.
