President Akufo-Addo has assured traders in Kumasi of his commitment to addressing their concerns.
He stressed, that having voted him to become President of the country, he will ensure that they are heard.
He advised them to use the channels available for their grievances.
President Akufo-Addo gave the assurance at the Kejetia Market complex after inspecting progress of work on phase two of the market.
Nicholas Osei-Wusu reports that President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the site of ongoing construction of phase Two of the Kumasi Market complex was part of activities on his schedule for Day Two of his four-day working tour of the Ashanti region.
The President was briefed about the progress of the project by the Project Consultant, Sampson Awuah and Director of Contracta, the firm executing the project, Mr. George. They told President Akufo-Addo that the construction was progressing according to plan.
”Total work done on the project so far is 49 per cent, even though some components have advanced beyond that percentage’, according to the contractors.
President Akufo-Addo was assured by the Consultant that the facility would be completed by mid 2024.
President Akufo-Addo expressed satisfaction with the progress of work. He took advantage of the opportunity to assuage concern of traders and the business community.
Members of the Adum Traders Association last week publicly expressed dissatisfaction with management of the local economy regarding the fast depreciation of the Cedi, posing a threat to the sustainability of their businesses.
They closed down their stores at Adum for five days in protest against what they observed to be unfriendly economic policies by the government which they asked to be urgently reviewed.
President Akufo-Addo urged them to be calm as he is ready to listen to them for a peaceful solution to their concerns.
From the Kejetia Market site, President Akufo-Addo, accompanied by some Ministers of State, visited also the site of the Mother and Baby Unit being constructed.
It is a replacement of the erstwhile 950-bed facility at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital that had remained under construction since the leadership of General Kutu Acheampong.
The work was progressing according to plan.
He later inaugurated a 33-kilo volt Primary sub-station at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
