The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, has reaffirmed his commitment to working with stakeholders to improve education in the region.

Speaking after a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday, February 6, Mr. Gunu emphasized the importance of academic excellence, particularly in Senior High Schools.

“We discussed ways to improve student performance, especially to increase the number of students qualifying for medical school. Investing in education is investing in our future, and I will continue working with stakeholders to enhance academic excellence in our region,” he said.

The meeting also addressed other key issues, including the ongoing water crisis affecting many communities. Mr. Gunu assured the chiefs that his administration is working on sustainable solutions to improve access to clean water.

“Plans are already in motion to improve infrastructure and enhance water supply across the region,” he stated.

Security concerns were also raised, especially the increasing number of checkpoints in the region. The Minister acknowledged the concerns and promised to work with relevant authorities to ensure a balance between security and ease of travel.

On infrastructure, Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, Paramount Chief of Klefe Traditional Area, highlighted the need to complete the Eastern Corridor Road and develop the Keta Harbor to boost trade, tourism, and job creation. Mr. Gunu expressed full support for these projects and pledged to advocate for their completion.

He also backed the call for leadership training for chiefs to strengthen governance and community development.

Vice President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, encouraged leaders to support all efforts aimed at improving the region. Mr. Gunu assured the chiefs of his unwavering commitment to serving the people and building a stronger, more prosperous Volta Region.
