The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, has re-stated the NDC’s commitment to peaceful elections.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Kpando in the Volta Region on Friday (August 21), Mr Mahama said NDC is opposed to the formation and deployment of vigilante forces during the December elections, adding the party is therefore counting on the vigilance of its members and supporters to protect the integrity of the ballot on election day.
He said communities should not just ensure that there is no violence on Election Day, but they should also take steps to prevent violent persons who may want to disrupt the polls at various centres from doing so.
Touching on business of ‘okada’ riders, Mr Mahama said it is about time Ghanaians accepted the reality that it has come to stay and become a source of employment for many young people.
He therefore promised to legalise and regulate okada operations when the NDC wins the December 2020 to enable okada riders safely do their business and in peace.
