Management of Ideal College in Accra says twenty-three (23) of its students have been injured after they were allegedly manhandled by some land guards and police, supposedly coming from the counter-terrorism unit of the Police Service.

Three of the students are in critical condition while the remaining 20 sustained minor injuries.

Speaking to the media, Public Relations Officer of the school, Naphtali Kyei Baffour, indicated although most of the students especially females have been gripped with fear, everything is under control.

Narrating the circumstances that led to the melee, he said some land guards in the company of uniformed officers besieged a portion of the school’s land where an assembly hall and hostel were being put up and attempted to pull down the sub-structure with a bulldozer without giving any reason.

Mr. Baffuor added that the school has permission from the assembly for the construction.

According to him, some land guards in February, 2022 indicated that a man known as Dzato sent them to demolish any property on the land alleging the land belongs to the government.

Mr. Baffour said the school will put together a petition which will be presented to the IGP for action.
