Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has reiterated his commitment to upholding the law, stating that he will fully support the police in bringing to justice those responsible for the violence that marred the Ashanti Regional Council of State election. ‘’I will support the Police one hundred percent to do the needful to bring the perpetrators to book’’, he said.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Muntaka emphasized that crime has no political ties, colour, tribe, or religion, and that anyone found guilty will face the consequences. His comments came in response to questions from the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin regarding the status of prosecution for those arrested in connection with the violence that happened on February 11, 2025. ‘’I treat crime as crime, it does not matter which party, tribe or religion you come from, once you commit a crime, it has been committed’’, he added.

The Minister noted that, contrary to media reports of initial arrests, his report indicated that the police were reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.

The violence occurred on February 11, 2025, during the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, when a group of observers interrupted the counting process, destroying ballot and other election materials.
