The Director of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, has called on the government and city authorities to quicken up with the process of putting a ban on all plastic waste in the country.
His call comes after parts of Accra flooded after heavy rainfall on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. This made commuting to and fro very difficult and also disfigured the beauty of the capital of Ghana, with Nkrumah Circle not looking the best.
Reacting to the plastic waste situation after the rainfall, Dr. Osae bemoaned why the country is faced with such dirt and called for a very effective ban on all plastic waste in the country.
He also questioned the work of the MMDCEs and engineers in the country if this is what we are always going to see every time it rains. He added that seeing trash everywhere in the capital after the rain does not sit well with a country that has clocked sixty-six years since independence.
According to him, Rwanda has been firm and banned plastic waste in their country, and it has solved some sanitation problems, so the leaders of the country need to take a cue from Rwanda and be bold in placing a ban on all plastic waste in Ghana.
He further added that, even though there are plastic waste management companies in Ghana, their work is not sufficient in curbing the dangers that plastic waste poses to the nation.
