The Jury trying two teenage boys for the alleged murder of a 10-year-old boy at Kasoa in the Central Region is expected to return its verdict on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
The two teenagers are accused of killing Ismael Mensah Abdallah, who was ten years old, in the morning of April 3, 2021, for alleged ritual purposes.
They allegedly lured the deceased to an uncompleted building near their house at Kasoa Coca Cola and hit him with a cement block, leading to his death.
They have been in custody since their arrest, pending the final verdict.
At the last sitting of the court, the prosecution, led by Senior State Attorney Dorcas Feli, told the court that the State has filed its closing address at the Registry as directed. Lawyers for the accused persons were, however, not able to carry out the court’s order, which they explained was due to reasons beyond their control.
The judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, ordered that the defence file the written addresses by March 18. Justice Osei Marfo, then adjourned the case to May 7, for summation and possibly a verdict to be given by the jury.
The prosecution called six witnesses, including the mother, father, and sister of one of the accused persons, to testify in the case.
The prosecution maintained throughout the trial that the two accused persons intentionally acted to cause the death of Ismael. The night before the alleged offence was committed, the prosecution said the two spent the night together, during which they allegedly discussed how to seek spiritual help because life was difficult.
Eighteen-year-old Nicholas Kani has denied accusations that he planned with his accomplice, who is a juvenile, to visit a fetish priest to seek spiritual powers and also acquire wealth.
He said the testimony of the other accused person confessing to the crime and linking him to it is false.
