Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD who is a Ghanaian Broadcaster, Master of Ceremonies, Media, Culture and Tourism Expert has suggested that the appropriate authorities should send young and vibrant fire Marshals to schools, work places and local communities as a starter to educate people on fire safety.
He made this suggestion on GTV’s Breakfast Show on January 26, 2022, during the Headlines Segment.
A fire marshal is primarily responsible for the identification of potential fire hazards in a building. The marshal is usually identified and appointed by the ‘Responsible Person’ – The individual in charge of the overall safety of people in a building.
KKD on fire prevention
Speaking on the fire situations in Ghana in relation to the recent explosion that occurred at Appiatse, which is between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region, after a motorcycle rider from the opposite direction ran under the van carrying the explosives, KKD stated that “charity begins at home and I think it needs to be extended to the schools”.
“We need to have within our local communities, young fire marshals. It shouldn’t only be at our workplaces but in schools as well,” he added.
Again, KKD explained that, until Ghanaians have the mindset that accidents may happen in any situation.
”Having fire marshalls in schools and local communities will be a good start to educating the public.”
