Residents of the Kpone Katamanso Municipality are unhappy about the deterioration of their major roads, coupled with poor drainage systems.
They say several attempts to draw attention to the authorities to fix the road and other infrastructure challenges in the municipality have not been successful.
Commercial drivers and motorists, especially, are calling on the government to turn attention to their part of the country.
Zenu, Atadeka, Washington, Peaceland, Down-Town and New York are all suburbs of KponeKatamanso Municipality.
These communities are fast becoming towns within the Municipality.
However, residents and commercial drivers are concerned over the poor condition of their roads as well as water and security challenges.
The bad state of the roads within the municipality has affected transportation and other economic activities over the years.
Most of the roads linking these communities are untarred and pothole-ridden.
This means houses and shops close to the roads are often covered with dust due to the many vehicles on this route.
According to the drivers, these roads serve as shorter alternative routes for travelers within Oyibi, Katamanso, Appolonia and other nearby communities but because the road is so bad, there is always traffic.
The constant use of the road by heavy trucks further deteriorates the road whenever it rains making it unmotorable.
Drivers say, the current state of the roads is affecting businesses and want the appropriate authorities to act now.
Residents here also complain about the perennial floods whenever it rains.
With poor drainage systems, the rains always badly affect these communities, with some communities being cut off making commuting difficult whiles others vacate their homes to avoid being submerged or drowned.
They say, abandoned culverts and gutters under construction which according to them are improperly done, are responsible for this situation.
Construction works have stalled for over a year now leaving the site with uncovered dugout trenches filled with water, sand and stones leading to flooding when it rains.
Although some concerned youth and opinion leaders of the town, have raised concerns over the drainage systems within the community, efforts to get the Municipal Assembly to act on the challenge has not been successful.
Residents of Atadeka, peace-land, New York and Washington also complain of inadequate security and water crisis in their communities.
Most households without water are worried over what they described as exorbitant charges by the Ghana Water Company although households with already connected pipelines are willing to connect them with water.
On Security, residents complain about a number of robberies and attacks by some miscreants and called on the Ashaiman District Command to provide the neighbourhoods with adequate security.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Kpone Katamanso Municipality, Mr. Solomon Appiah who spoke in a telephone interview on these concerns of the residents, mentioned that the Assembly is working on a plan to fix the roads and other problems in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality and called for patience from residents.
