Veteran Ghanaian Journalist, Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie says the emergence of New media makes integrity and credibility difficult and misinformation more rampant.

Appearing on the ‘BBUM Show’ hosted by Thelma Tackie on GTV, she said everyone with a smart phone has become a citizen journalist.

She indicated that there is lack of consensus building and ethical values in handling sensitive matters these days.

During the elections “we had a lot of threatening calls and pressure but we tried to put everything well in place to support the EC Chair at the time Dr. Afari Gyan to announce the accredited results to the entire country”, she added.

Madam Afenyi Dadzie said she foresees a day Media Houses will come down, not because of policing, but, because of lack of credibility and integrity and called on media houses to champion the right and fight the wrong.

With regard to regulatory issues, Madam Afenyi-Dadzie said, “We must make sure to put our houses in order, because there are people out there wishing that the wings of the media be clipped”.

She queried why media houses will allow people to use their platforms to spew lies and wondered what happened to the gate keeping role and thorough research.

“Journalists must learn that they have to sacrifice to excel, by investing in themselves to get credibility and confidence for themselves and their media houses” she said.
