The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has called for the creation of a fast-track court to quickly prosecute people who destroy Ghana’s forests.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on March 19, Mr. Buah said both the Attorney General and the Chief Justice have shown support for the idea.

“I believe the time has come for us to set up a fast-track court to prosecute those destroying our forest reserves,” he said.

He also confirmed that he had discussed the proposal with the highest legal authorities in the country, including the Chief Justice and the Attorney General.

The minister explained that the fight against illegal activities in forests needs teamwork because his ministry does not have police or military power.

“This ministry can only work when we get support from all these agencies. We rely on them to enforce the law, and so far, I think the response has been positive,” he added.

The proposed fast-track court is expected to speed up legal actions against illegal miners, loggers, and others who harm Ghana’s forests.
