Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has ordered that all confiscated rosewood be donated to the construction of the National Cathedral.
He said government will find other use for all confiscated rosewood if the National Cathedral has more than enough. Mr Jinapor gave the directive when he supervised the evacuation of five confiscated containers of banned species of rosewood at the Tema Harbour.
The five containers were impounded on the 17th of June this year, after officials of the Energy Commission, raised suspicion that the containers may contain illegal charcoal.
Seizure notices were placed on the containers after the officials raised red flag, making it impossible for the containers to be exported.
When the containers were opened a week later, it was confirmed the logs were rosewood. Mr Jinapor reiterated that the ban on rosewood is still in force.
Meanwhile, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister says ongoing investigations have revealed the identity of individuals and companies, that were behind the illegal act to export the banned product.
He said government will not hesitate to name and shame those involved after investigations are concluded.
