The Labour Court has struck out the legal tussle between the National Labour Commission and the University Teachers Association following the applicants’ decision to withdraw the case and go into negotiations.
UTAG on Wednesday agreed to suspend the strike on condition that the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and the National Labour Commission (NLC), discontinue all legal processes against it.
This follows an emergency meeting between the NLC and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations yesterday.
In court on Thursday, August 19, 2021, both parties noted that negotiations cannot continue if the case is still in court.
Speaking to GBC News, President of the University of Ghana Chapter of UTAG, Dr. Samuel Nkubang, said their resolve is to begin negotiations with the government on the matter from next Monday, August 23, 2021.
He, however, warned that if the government fails to address their concerns by the end of August, they will be forced to withdraw their services again.
Meanwhile, Deputy Labour Minister Bright Wereko-Brobbey who was in court on Thursday, August 19, with the parties said he welcomed “the court’s decision’’.
He gave the assurance that “negotiations will continue as soon as possible’’.
