Kwesi Obeng Ofori, the Public Relations officer for the Ministry of Energy has reacted to the interview of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on the load shedding timetable .

Speaking to a reporter at the inauguration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team in the Ashanti Region Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh said Ghana is not currently experiencing “dumsor”. The law maker also refuted the necessity for a load-shedding timetable.

Dr. Prempeh challenged those advocating for the ECG to issue a load-shedding timetable to come up with their own proposed schedules.

“If you are comparing four years, four years, NPP administration is 300 times better than John Mahama…Nobody has said we haven’t [experienced dumsor]; I am just saying it is far much better than John Mahama ever did.”

“Ask those who want it [load-shedding timetable] to bring it. I haven’t seen any timetable today. The ECG said that there is no timetable coming up,” he added.

Reacting to the development on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Nana Yaw Fianko on Tuesday March 26, Kwesi Obeng Ofori revealed that persons comparing John Mahama’s power crises to this current administration are not being truthful to themselves.

He noted that the opposition is just trying to score political points with the issue.

After widespread public criticism of his comments, the Energy Ministry in a statement signed by Minister’s spokesperson Kofi Abrefa Afena and dated 26th March said the innocuous statement of the Minister as captured have been distorted to portray him as insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians.

“The Minister dismissed the need for a load management time table because in his view and as indicated by the Electricity Company of Ghana, the causes of the temporary power challenges are being addressed.”

“The Honourable Minister has always been sensitive to the plight of the Ghanaian people and continues to ask for their forbearance, as has always been the case when challenges relative to power stability emerge.”

“The Ministry wishes to assure the general public that the Ministry as the policy maker and mother agency of the various power sector actors are working assiduously with these agencies to ensure that the temporary challenges are resolved,” the statement added.
