Upper West Regional Police Command has uncovered and destroyed a local gun manufacturing shop at Charia, a village near Wa, the regional capital.
The police also seized 36 single barrel guns from the house of the manufacturer, Bartholomew Daryenkye, who is now on the run.
Briefing the media at Wa, Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Peter Ndekugri Abugri said the police at Loho barrier arrested a suspect, Nyame Purokiamah, aged 61 with a locally manufactured single barrel short gun.
Upon interrogation, he mentioned Michael Sankora, his grandson as the one who gave it to him for trial.
When Micheal Sankora was arrested he told the police that he bought the gun from the suspect Bartholomew Daryenkye at Charia, now at large.
When the police led Mr. Sankora to the suspected seller’s house, they retrieved 36 single barreled guns, one Mark- 4 gun, one double barrel short gun, two locally manufactured pistols, one foreign pistol and twelve butts.
The police destroyed the gun manufacturing shop and arrested the wife of the suspected manufacturer.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect Mr. Darenkye has been manufacturing guns for criminals to operate with.
ACP Ndekugri appealed to the public to volunteer information to enable the Police flush out people who engaged in criminal activities for law abiding citizens to go about their duties without fear.
