The Police have officially charged the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, for causing damage to public property.
Acting Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, said the MP is expected to appear in court on November 8, 2021.
Addressing journalists on the sidelines of a meeting by the Inspector General of Police and selected Civil Society Organizations, ACP Ofori, said the Police have obtained criminal summons which has been duly served on Mr. Sosu to appear in court.
Charges levelled against the MP include obstructing the highway, and causing damage to public property.
This latest development follows several failed attempts by the Police to arrest the legislator, who is alleged to have breached the law during a recent demonstration by residents of Oyarifa and its environs.
Attempts to invite Mr. Sosu through the Speaker of Parliament were also denied.
The MP organized a demonstration on the 25th of last month, for some of his constituents to express their displeasure over the poor nature of their roads.
The exercise came off amidst the blocking of roads and burning of tyres, as well as an alleged destruction of public property.
