President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to amend the holiday act to include an additional holiday for Eid ul Fitr.
During the National Prayers and Thanksgiving service held at the National Mosque in Accra, he reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the Muslim community during his election campaign.
President Mahama emphasized that the amendment will be prioritized as soon as Parliament reconvenes.
“As soon as Parliament settles, we are going to amend the holiday act to include an extra holiday on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr” he stated.
This change will allow Muslims to enjoy two holidays for their Sallah festivities, enhancing the celebration of this important occasion.
In his address, the President expressed gratitude to the National Chief Imam and the entire Muslim community for their support and prayers throughout the election period.
“This year, after we finish the fast of Ramadan, we will have two holidays for the Sallah festivities,” he added, highlighting the government’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and respect for all religious practices in Ghana.
