The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritise the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital projects when he takes office.

The Agenda 111 initiative, launched during Akufo-Addo’s administration at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, aims to build 111 district and regional hospitals, including psychiatric facilities, to address gaps in Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.

Speaking during his final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of the project, describing it as a transformative step in strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.

“The pandemic revealed critical weaknesses in our healthcare system. The Agenda 111 project was our response—to ensure every district has a hospital,” he said.

He noted that while significant progress has been made, with construction ongoing at 99 district hospital sites and two psychiatric hospitals, some projects remain unfinished.

President Akufo-Addo expressed hope that the incoming Mahama administration would see the initiative through to completion, emphasising its potential to improve healthcare access and reduce pressure on existing facilities.

“I am optimistic that the next government will continue and complete this vital project for the benefit of all Ghanaians,” he concluded.
