President Mahama visits Bawku, Nalerigu to promote peace

President John Dramani Mahama has visited Bawku and Nalerigu as part of efforts to resolve the long-standing conflict in Bawku.

The President is meeting with various groups involved in the conflict, as well as community leaders, to encourage dialogue and work towards lasting peace in the region. This visit on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, reflects his commitment to ending one of Ghana’s most enduring regional disputes through peaceful and inclusive discussions.

“The President is determined to resolve the decades-old conflict in Bawku and will use the visit to engage the conflict factions and key stakeholders to promote dialogue to achieve lasting peace,” said Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

President Mahama’s mission highlights his vision of a united Ghana, where disagreements are resolved through understanding and diplomacy. After his meetings, he is expected to return to Accra later today.

This peace-building effort underscores the government’s focus on reconciliation and development as priorities in 2025.
