President John Dramani Mahama, on Monday, March 24, 2025, swore in the newly appointed members of the Armed Forces Council.
The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, will chair the seven-member council.
The newly appointed members include the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and the Minister of Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka.
Also serving on the council are Daniel Addo, Fuseini Iddrisu, and Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.
The appointees, selected from diverse professional backgrounds, are distinguished individuals with extensive experience in governance, security, and public administration. They will assume their roles in line with the council’s mandate to provide policy direction and administrative oversight for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The Armed Forces Council is responsible for ensuring the military’s efficiency, adherence to democratic principles, and accountability to the civilian government.
It is also mandated to advise the President on matters of national defence and oversee the discipline and welfare of military personnel.
