President Mahama orders investigation into Obuasi mine deaths

Government has expressed deep regret over the tragic loss of up to eight lives following a violent clash at a mining site in Obuasi, reportedly involving illegal miners.

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident to uncover the circumstances surrounding the clashes. The investigation aims to ensure that individuals found to have acted unlawfully are held accountable.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, it was revealed that the management of AngloGold Ashanti has been instructed to cover the medical expenses of the injured and facilitate burial arrangements for those who lost their lives.

Additionally, security agencies have been directed to restore peace in the area and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in affected communities.
