President John Dramani Mahama has called for a peaceful and safe celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, stressing the need for caution during the period. He urged the police to take action against reckless driving and motorcycle riding among the youth to prevent accidents.

Speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration at Black Star Square, President Mahama stated that Ramadan is not only about abstaining from food and drink but also about self-discipline and compassion toward others.

He encouraged Christians to participate in charitable acts during this time, highlighting that Zakat (charitable giving) is not exclusive to Muslims.

The President also appealed for peace in Bawku, urging residents to set aside their differences and embrace unity.

“I call on our brothers and sisters in Bawku to give peace a chance as we celebrate this holy month of Eid-ul-Fitr,” he said.

Additionally, he advised Muslims to use Ramadan as an opportunity for reconciliation, encouraging them to mend relationships and seek peace with others.

“If you have a quarrel with someone, visit their home after Sallah and make peace,” he added.

Meanwhile, the government has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

  1. Gtv coverage of the Eid prayer is very poor. The camera is more focused on the presenter than the event itself. While the sermon was being delivered, he was interviewing people when he himself alluded to the fact that it’s important to listen to the sermon. The presenter tells the viewer what is going on when the camera can easily focus on that and the presenter still running the commentary. They can do better.
