President-Elect John Mahama announces interim National Security Coordinating Team

President-Elect Mr. John Mahama has announced a six-member Interim National Security Coordinating Team to manage and oversee national security operations pending the appointment of substantive officeholders.

This critical measure aims to ensure a seamless transition and maintain national stability.

The team, set to commence its duties on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, will be chaired by Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Minister for the Interior. Known for his extensive experience in governance and security matters, Mr. Bani’s leadership is expected to provide effective coordination during the transition period.

The team includes notable security experts and seasoned professionals:

Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.) – Former Chief of Defence Staff, bringing invaluable military leadership experience.

Kofi Totobi Quakyi – Former Minister for National Security, known for his strategic insights in national security affairs.

Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq. – Former National Security Coordinator, with a wealth of expertise in intelligence operations.

Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.) – A respected military officer with extensive operational experience.

COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.) – A retired Commissioner of Police with an impressive track record in law enforcement.

The interim team’s primary mandate will be to ensure continuity and coherence in national security matters during the transitional phase while maintaining Ghana’s peace and security.

In a statement, Special Aide to President-Elect Mahama, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, emphasised the importance of the team’s role, stating that the inclusion of these distinguished individuals underscores the President-Elect’s commitment to safeguarding the nation during the transition.
