President John Mahama is set to visit Burkina Faso today, Monday, March 10, 2025, as part of his ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen Ghana’s relations with its West African neighbours.

During his visit to Ouagadougou, President Mahama will hold discussions with Burkinabe leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré on key areas of mutual interest. Their talks will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, given the historical and geographical ties between the two nations.

A significant part of their agenda will be dedicated to regional security, particularly the challenges in the Sahel region. They are also expected to deliberate on broader geopolitical issues and sub-regional stability.

This marks President Mahama’s first official visit to Burkina Faso since taking office on January 7, 2025, following his electoral victory on December 7, 2024.

His trip is part of a broader tour of Sahelian countries, which began over the weekend with visits to Mali and Niger. Through these engagements, President Mahama seeks to strengthen strategic cooperation and address pressing security concerns within the newly formed Alliance of Sahel States.

The visit is anticipated to deepen collaboration in security, trade, and governance, reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to regional stability and development in West Africa.
