The Country Director of Population Council, Ghana, Prof Augustine Ankomah has challenged the media to do more in Reproductive Health Education, especially, among adolescents to help curtail teenage pregnancies and related complications.
Prof. Ankomah was speaking at a workshop organised by the National Population Council with support from Marie Stopes International-Ghana, for selected Editors in Accra.
He said education has been identified as a critical driver in addressing reproductive challenges faced by adolescents.
He enumerated some barriers to reproductive health among adolescents.
The Executive Director of the National Population Council, Dr. Leticia Appiah emphasized the need for the physical health needs of adolescents, to be provided to ensure that they do the right thing when it comes to their sexuality.
The Board Chairman of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Prof. Kwame Karikari, who chaired the programme, entreated the Editors to consider having adolescent reproductive health segments on their networks and in their newspapers.
He also tasked the media to impress upon politicians to make addressing population-related issues part of their manifestos for the 2020 election.
