In a riveting conclusion to the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Mfantsipim School emerged victorious after a fierce competition against Saint Augustine’s College and Keta Senior High Technical School on October 30, 2024.
The event, which captivated audiences nationwide, took place at the NEC examination hall of the University of Cape Coast, showcasing the intellectual prowess of Ghana’s top students. Initially featuring 157 schools, the competition had narrowed down to these three formidable finalists, each vying for the prestigious title.
The journey to the finals was marked by unexpected turns, most notably when Mfantsipim School ousted the reigning champions, Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC), during the semifinals. In a nail-biting match, Mfantsipim secured 56 points with a tie-breaker, surpassing PRESEC’s 53 points. This victory set the stage for an electrifying final showdown, where Mfantsipim faced off against their formidable opponents, Saint Augustine’s College and Keta Senior High Technical School.
The final contest unfolded over five rounds of intense intellectual engagement, with each team showcasing their knowledge and strategic acumen. Mfantsipim clinched the championship with a narrow victory, securing 47 points against Saint Augustine’s College’s 46, while Keta Senior High Technical School followed with 29 points. The competition was a testament to the participants’ dedication and the high standards of academic excellence upheld by these institutions.
Mfantsipim’s triumph marks their third NSMQ title, having previously won in 1999 and 2014. As Ghana’s oldest senior high school, their legacy of academic excellence continues to inspire future generations. The team, led by the exceptional Isaac Mensah, demonstrated remarkable resilience and quick thinking throughout the competition, earning them well-deserved accolades and admiration from peers and educators alike.
