The Ghana Mineworkers’ Union is calling on Government to pay attention to the poor state of roads in mining communities.
It said these communities ought to benefit fully from the Minerals Development Fund which was instituted to help address the infrastructural deficit within mining communities.
Addressing journalists in Tarkwa, during the celebration of the Annual Mineworkers’ Week of the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union, an Executive Council Member, Blay Thompson asked Government to pay critical attention to the Damang-Akyempim, Dunkwa-Ayanfuri, Bogoso-Damang, Bogoso-Prestea and the Tarkwa-Takoradi roads.
He pointed out the significant contribution of Tarkwa and its environs, and places such as Akyempim, Bogoso, Prestea, and Nsuta to the mining fortunes of Ghana, saying this cannot go unnoticed.
He said within the Tarkwa enclave alone, there are seven giant large-scale mining companies, these are: Gold Fields Tarkwa, Anglo Gold Ashanti Iduapriem, Abosso Gold Fields, Golden Star Resources, Future Global Resources, Ghana Manganese Company, and Adamus Resources.
