The Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has hinted that as a deliberate effort to stop all forms of mining in Forest Reserves, his outfit will soon review mining licences in forest reserves.

According to him, there will be no issuance of new licenses for mining in forest reserves, emphasising the importance of thoroughly reviewing the process for issuing mining licenses.

Mr Armah-Kofi Buah, answering questions posed to him by members of the vetting Appointments Committee when he appeared before them on Monday, January 27, 2025, expressed grave concerns about the devastating impact of mining on water bodies and forest reserves.

He also outlined measures to restore degraded lands and assured the Committee of a comprehensive approach to addressing the environmental challenges caused by mining activities.

“We are not going to open ourselves for further damage, and that is why we are going to stop further issuance of any license for mining in forest reserves. There will be a holistic review of mining license issuance,” Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah added.
