The Minority has rejected the proposed route by the Police for the #OccupyBOG demonstration planned for the 8th of next month.
In a statement signed by the Minority Leader, Casiel Ato Forson, the proposed route is not what was discussed when the delegation met with them.
It says this is an attempt by the Police to deny them the opportunity to embark on the protest at the BOG Headquarters on the pretext that it is a security zone. The statement says this is troubling and unwholesome for the Police Service’s motto of Service with integrity.
It further goes on to say why the Cedi House which is another Bank of Ghana edifice proposed by the police, is not a security zone. The Minority says it hopes this is not a plan to thwart the planned protest and for the Police to shirk their constitutional duty of providing security for persons who desire to publicly manifest their revulsion at the Central Bank’s reckless management of the country’s money.
The statement said the routes have been successfully used for peaceful protests with Police aid. The Minority therefore urges the Police to prepare to honour its Constitutional duty for the OccupyBoG protest on the proposed date.
