The Minority in Parliament is asking the government to explain the seizure of gold and cash by National Security in February. They claim that the seized assets are worth billions of dollars.

According to the Minority, the government has not provided any updates on the matter since the operation took place.

‎Speaking at a press conference , the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, said the operation happened in a southern part of Accra. During the raid, 12 containers filled with gold bars and an unknown amount of US dollars and Ghanaian cedis were found.

‎“This case has received a lot of attention. The people of Ghana deserve to know exactly how much was taken and what will happen next,” Rev. Fordjour said.

‎Even though the seizure was widely reported in the media, nearly two months have passed without any update from National Security.

‎“It is unacceptable that we still do not know the total amount of gold or cash that was confiscated,” Rev. Fordjour added.

‎The government has also not revealed who owned the seized assets or what will be done with them. The Minority is now demanding a full explanation.

‎“We, the Minority, demand transparency,” Rev. Fordjour stated. “The government must come clean about the gold and cash. What is their plan for these assets?”

‎The group has given National Security a two-month deadline to provide answers. However, as time passes, people are becoming more doubtful.

‎The minority will not stop until the Minister for the Interior gives a full and honest report on this matter,” Rev. Fordjour assured.

‎He also warned that the lack of transparency could harm public trust.

‎“The people of Ghana need clear and truthful answers. This is the only way to maintain confidence in the government.”

‎The Minority said they will continue to push for accountability until the full truth is revealed.
