More leverage on technology to drive growth & development – Vice President Bawumia

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, says as the economy rebounds from the negative effects of Covid-19 pandemic, the government will continue to leverage on technology to drive growth and development.

He said various digital initiatives of the government are the fundamental enablers to change the old ways of doing things to bring the needed transformation in the banking sector and the economy at large.

Dr. Bawumia while commending industry players for buying into the digital initiatives of the government, charged the banking industry and the Telcos to collaborate to deepen the financial inclusion agenda.

Vice President Bawumia made these remarks at the Standard Chartered Digital Banking, Innovation and FinTech Festival in Accra.

Vice President Bawumia said for the past 5 years, the policy direction of the government is to build a digital economy, a financial ecosystem, and a system that best delivers a more efficient, transparent, inclusive building block in public administration.

“This is a more robust way to run the country and the vehicle that will accelerate the rate of growth. It is the way to make this country the hub of financial and technological progress in the sub region’’.

Vice President Bawumia lauded Standard Chartered Bank for their enormous contribution over the past 125 years to the banking industry.

He charged industry players to deepen collaboration to improve financial inclusion.

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison in a remark touched on some of the innovations made that have improved the banking landscape. Key among them is Fintech which has improved monetary transactions.

The two-day event will create the platform for participants to engage some FinTech operators in Ghana.
