A mother and her three children who died in a house fire in Kumasi have been laid to rest in an emotional ceremony attended by grieving relatives, friends, and sympathizers.
Linda Agyemang, a nurse at Kumasi South Hospital, and her children—aged between seven and 14—were trapped in their three-bedroom apartment when the fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The blaze, which destroyed the house and its contents, left other tenants narrowly escaping with their lives.
On Sunday, mourners gathered in the Atonsu community in the Ashanti Region to bid farewell to the family. Dressed in black and red, relatives and friends struggled to hold back tears, while schoolmates of the children wept as they paid their final respects.
Linda’s husband, visibly devastated, broke down repeatedly during the service as he tried to come to terms with the tragic loss of his entire family. Her grieving mother’s cries echoed through the funeral grounds, moving many in attendance to tears.
Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, was present to offer condolences, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that has left the entire community in shock.
