The Minister-Designate for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has pledged to address concerns about fairness and inclusivity in the recruitment process for Ghana’s security services.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 24, Mr. Muntaka emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the regional quota system.
The nominee expressed concerns about perceived biases in the current system, highlighting the marginalization of minorities in favor of a select majority. He assured the Committee of his determination to ensure a transparent and equitable process that reflects the nation’s diverse makeup.
“I’m going to a ministry that has a lot of professionals that are experts in their fields. You can’t doubt the expertise of the Inspector General of Police, neither will you doubt the Director General of Ghana Prisons and the likes,” Muntaka said.
He indicated that his approach would involve collaboration with the leadership of the security services to assess and refine the system. “Together with them, we have to review. Over the last 30 or 40 years, since we started this 4th Republic, how have we done it? Has it served the purpose? If there are lapses, we will look at it and review it in the best interest of the country,” he noted.
Muntaka reiterated his commitment to working closely with key stakeholders in the security services to promote inclusivity and ensure fairness in the recruitment process.
He assured the Committee that his efforts would prioritize national unity and the advancement of Ghana’s security infrastructure.
