National Ambulance Service makes case for citizen’s support

Director of Operations for the National Ambulance Service, Foster Andong Bridjan has justified why the public needs to make payment for some of the services rendered by the ambulance team juxtaposing the free ambulance service.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, he explained that even though government provides fuel for transportation, long distance transfer of a victim consumes more fuel and that comes with a little support.

“How much can government provide, if we’re using CHS 2,000 to 3,000 cedis on fuel to transport only one case? he rhetorically asked.

Even though services such as a patient being put on oxygen and other consumables used during the conveyance of a victim are free, “At a point in time there’ll be the need for someone to foot the bill”.  he added.

He however stated that the team sometimes went out of their way to support, by paying for the bills of patients during moments of urgency when relatives of victims are not traceable.

“I Personally had to pay for scan before a Doctor could begin an operation on a victim” he backed his claim.

193 is the Emergency number of the National Ambulance Service which was established in 2004 to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to the public.

Aside providing emergency care and stabilization, the service is faced with issues of congestion on our roads and prank calls, which he advised the public to guard against.
