The National Association of Nigerian students, NANS-Ghana chapter has organized a national development summit at the Pentecost University college in Accra. The event was to commemorate the 63rd Independence Anniversary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The theme for the programme “reimagine Nigeria: a call for new thinking and responsibility for our national development” aimed at instilling in the youth especially Nigerian students in Ghana a spirit of patriotism, a sense of responsibility and innovation to transform society.

Speaking with the media, President of the Association, Sam Edem mentioned that cyber crime was a global phenomenon that was hampering the progress of many countries therefore he called for awareness creation and a collective responsibility to combat the menace.

He encouraged lawmakers to invest in platforms that empower the youth to impact society.

“The overwhelming majority of Nigerian people and Nigerian students studying in Ghana are not involved in fraud. They are active in their academics. They are serious about it and they are making active investments towards their future”.

“Unfortunately, we have had a few cases but that is not something that is unique to Ghana or Nigeria. It is a global problem. What we can do is raise awareness, that is a collective responsibility. I am calling on government particularly African government to prioritize investment in young people” he indicated.

When asked about the demonstrations and protest by the opposition party and other entities in Ghana, he advised citizens to utilize every opportunity available at their disposal in order to make a difference in society.

The international relations secretary of the National Union of Ghana students (NUGS), Nakpri Joshua said border restrictions was a major concern in Africa hence the Association will organise a tour with duty bearers to reduce the barriers to access at the border lines.

He said to achieve this goal, it needed collaborations and partnerships from various stakeholders and reminded the students of tourism centers available in the country.
