The Chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Kathleen Addy says it is scary for Ghanaians to call for coup d’etat as an alternative to the country’s current democratic dispensation.
This development, Madam Addy believes has come about because the citizens think democracy has not delivered the dividend it promised.
She said external threats as a result of political instability across the continent plus internal difficulties triggered by economic and social hardships puts the country in a vulnerable state where strategic and deliberate work has to be carried out in order to sustain the gains.
The Chairperson of the NCCE was speaking at an engagement with the Management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in Accra on how to effectively collaborate with the GBC to deliver on its mandate.
Director General of GBC, Prof. Amin Alhassan, said the call for a coup d’etat is ridiculous and suicidal. He said the work that has gone into where Ghana is currently should not be underrated.
The GBC, he noted, is open to proposals and programmes that will benefit not only the NCCE and GBC but the entire nation, particularly citizens living in rural areas who depend on civic education to make informed decisions.
