National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest $10 billion in critical infrastructure over five years if he wins the December 7 presidential election.
Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch at the University of Education, Winneba, Mahama pledged to prioritise completing ongoing projects rather than initiating new ones, a departure from the usual practice when governments change.
Mahama highlighted Ghana’s history of abandoned projects, citing examples such as the $3 billion STX housing deal and the contentious Saglemi Housing Project.
He vowed that his administration would implement a $10 billion, 5-year infrastructure investment in critical sectors.
He also said that he will complete abandoned and ongoing projects instead of rushing to start new ones, conduct an inventory of stalled or abandoned projects, including hospitals, schools, electrification, water, and road initiatives, and make annual budgetary allocations to complete these projects.
Mahama’s plan aims to address Ghana’s infrastructure challenges and promote continuity in project implementation.
