Issues of fear for one’s life and trust in the Police are said to be the major reasons why witnesses of January 18, 2022, deadly clash between two gangs in Nima and Mamobi are refusing to come forward with information to aid in investigation.

This is according to Security Analyst Adib Saani who has been on the scene of the incident.

Speaking to GBC News, Mr. Saani narrated how he witnessed an individual forcibly harassing a woman who witnessed the incident and succeeded in preventing her from speaking to the Police.

He told Nathaniel Nartey that the situation could be due to the weak nature of the Police Witness Protection Regime.

”I have been on the ground and a lot of people do not want to talk, but the few I spoke with don’t know what happened. Trust is the reason why they seem tight-lipped. Some are also scared because our witness protection regime is not very progressive so people are still mistrustful of the Security Agencies and don’t really want to open up.”
“I saw one lady the police attempted to engage and I heard a boy in the background shouting hey hey hey to prevent her from speaking and when the Police left, I was still hanging around and they were rebuking the lady, asking why she was speaking to the Police.”

Mr. Saani commended the Police for their swift response following the clash between the gangs.

“I am particularly excited about the interest the Police has shown in this issue and I hope they arrest all the perpetrators,” Adib Sani noted.
