The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) has denied social media reports that it issued fake cheques to its beneficiaries.

The denial follows an alleged publication that the Ministry of Business Development and its implementing agency, the NEIP issued fake cheques to beneficiaries of a business programme in the three regions of the North.

The report stated that more than 95% of beneficiaries have received their funding through an account they created with the National Investment Bank, NIB.

It says the only time cheques were introduced was during the launch of the Presidential Business Support Programme where beneficiaries were asked to hold cheques to represent the amount they will receive and that was done just for the ceremony.

NEIP says it considers the false publication as a means by individuals to tarnish the image of the programme and the Ministry of Business Development and should be retracted.
