Workers of the National Identification Authority have declared an indefinite strike starting Tuesday, October 7, 2024 over the government’s failure to implement a newly approved scheme of service.
In a notice the aggrieved workers said the Scheme of Service was painstakingly approved by the Public Services Commission, within two weeks in record history, in the month of March. They said while this remains a vital tool for their collective survival and progress, Management has refused to implement this critical document, describing it as a blatant betrayal of trust and a direct attack on their well-being.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) announced that it will begin the Ghana Card registration for minors aged between 6 and 14 years, starting on October 7, 2024. This exercise is part of the government’s ongoing effort to ensure every citizen is included in the national identification system.
However, the NIA workers have announced an industrial action effective today, October 7, 2024. A notice issued by the aggrieved workers on Sunday, October 6, 2024 indicates that the strike is as a result of the employer’s failure to implement their newly approved scheme of service.
The aggrieved workers say they will not call off their industrial action until the agreed scheme of service is implemented. The workers say the failure to implement the agreed scheme of service is a blatant breach of trust and a direct attack on the well-being of all members.
